What do you want to know about NAAF's Bursary & Scholarship Awards?

Who can apply?
All Canadian resident First Nations (status and non-status), Métis and Inuit students who are enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies.

What post secondary fields of study are supported?
Post secondary fields of study of at least two academic years at recognized Canadian technical institutes, CEGEPs, colleges and universities. Certificate or diploma programs, undergraduate and graduate programs are eligible for consideration.

What type of financial assistance does the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF) offer?
NAAF has financial assistance programs for studies in Fine Arts, in Health Careers and in Post Secondary Education (business, science, engineering, law, computer studies, technical studies, social science, social work, and education).

How do I apply?
1.  Choose the NAAF financial assistance program that best suits your course of studies (Fine Arts OR Health Careers OR Post Secondary Education OR Oil & Gas Trades and Technology).
2.  Go to the NAAF website and print an application form OR contact NAAF's education department for an application form. 

What are the deadlines?
For studies in Fine Arts (music, drama, visual, media arts) the deadline is May 1 annually

For studies in Health Careers, the deadline is June 1 annually

For studies in Business, Science and General Education (including technical studies), the deadline is June 1 annually

For Studies and/or aprenticeships, Oil & Gas Trades and Technology the deadline is April 30 and November 30 annually

How much will I receive?
Amounts vary.  Juries review each application individually.

Who will decide if I am successful?
Juries of First Nations, Inuit or Métis professionals decide.  They base their decisions on grades, commitment, financial need and Aboriginal community involvement.

When will I know if I have received financial assistance?
NAAF will post successful award recipients on the NAAF website (www.naaf.ca) one or two weeks after each Jury session by program (Fine Arts, Health Careers or Post Secondary Education).

All applicants (successful and unsuccessful) will be advised by letter of the results of the application process. Letters and cheques will be mailed in the following timeframes.

For Fine Arts Bursary Award Program by the end of July

For Health Careers by the end of August

For Post Secondary Education (Business, Science, Engineering, Law, Computer Studies, Technical Studies and General Education) by the end of August

What if I have applied to college or university, but haven’t been accepted?  Can I still apply for scholarship assistance?
Yes you can still apply.  Juries make awards conditional on proof of admission or continuing enrollment.
